Ted’s Tour I
Field Immobilizations and Morning Rounds
Hospital of the San Diego Wildlife Park
By public demand, Dr Stanley is arranging a tour for our San Diego Annual Meeting this year!! He has really gone out of his way to arrange an outstanding tour for those interested in how the veterinarians at the Hospital of The San Diego Wildlife Park perform field immobilizations and how they operate and anesthetize large animals.

To have enough time to see all of this, it will require splitting the tour into a morning and afternoon tour. That is to say, for those interested in watching field immobilizations and to make morning rounds with the veterinarians, Ted has arranged this to happen Wednesday morning.
This would require those interested in the Wednesday tour to come to the hotel a day early on Tuesday February 23, 2009 so they can be ready for the 615AM departure from the hotel. The tour will probably go till noon with plenty of time for the Member to get ready for the Wednesday evening activities. Transportation will be arranged.
To insure and extra room night at the hotel, those interested MUST register with the hotel as soon as possible. Whereas the low room rate is guaranteed, availability for these extra days is on a first come basis.
Cost per person has not been determined.

USS Midway VIP Tour
Today guests will enjoy a VIP tour of the USS Midway, the newest addition to San Diego’s naval history. Having the distinction of being the first carrier to be named after a WWII battle, the USS Midway was launched in 1945 and had a long and prestigious career in the US Navy, being reconfigured from a straight deck carrier to an angled deck carrier in 1955. In her 47-year history, the Midway participated in actions from the Korean War, Vietnam to Operation Desert Storm. She was decommissioned for the last time at North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego in 1992. Learn today what the Midway Magic is all about.
The tour will be led by Scott McGaugh, author of Midway Magic. For the past eight years, Scott McGaugh has played an active role in the campaign to bring the USS Midway to San Diego as a permanent museum, visitor attraction and education center. He's researched the history of CV-41, interviewing more than 300 crewmen, from war-scarred "plankowners" who took USS Midway to sea in 1945 to the teenagers who launched F/A-18 Hornets in Desert Storm.
After the private VIP tour guests will have time to explore the museum on their own. There are 54 different areas of the ship to visit including a new area they are calling “Officer’s Country”. This area of the ship includes areas such fire stations, a laundry room, The Brig (jail), Quarters, a Kitchen, and Dining Halls. Officer’s Country can be visited during the VIP presentation by Scott McGaugh if the group is fewer than (17) guests or guests are free to visit this area on their self guided tour.
